Supermeat launches bigger and better
This year's Supermeat & Fish Awards is set to be bigger and better, with new awards and new participants.
The annual MTJ event, which rewards excellence in the supermarket meat and fish sector, will be taking place at the Hilton hotel, Park Lane, London on 19 June and is one of the few occasions when the entire supply chain meets up for an evening of celebration.
The event was established by Meat Trades Journal in 1999, to identify and reward the very best meat, poultry and fish products in the UK, together with the top stores around Britain.
The awards aim to encourage new product development, recognise the professional and creative development that is driving the industry forward and raise confidence and awareness in the meat, poultry and fish industries. This year's event is set to feature some brand new awards.
Look out for more details in MTJ in the near future. Judging will be taking place during April and May, with the panel featuring a range of expert judges from both the trade and consumer sectors, chaired by former MTJ editor Fred A'Court.
Ed Bedington, editor of MTJ, said: "This year's event is shaping up well and already looks very exciting. The awards are a great way of highlighting the hard work and innovation that goes into manufacturing and retailing meat products. We're proud to be able to provide the industry with a platform to sing its praises."
This year's awards see the participation of leading retailers, including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, the Co-op and Waitrose. Also bringing support to the event are a number of commercial sponsors, including the Danish Bacon and Meat Council, Bord Bia and BPEX, with others to be announced soon.
Entries are welcomed by participating retailers and also by the independent manufacturers, who supply products to the retailers.
