Wal-Mart expands into India

 - Published:  28 November, 2006

US giant Wal-Mart is continuing its international expansion with the announcement of a joint agreement with India's Bharti Enterprises.

The two companies said they had signed a deal to "jointly explore business opportunities" in India.

Media reports claimed the two companies were intending to open "several hundred" stores across India under the Wal-Mart name.

The deal follows the collapse of talks between Tesco and Bharti, in which the UK number one retailer had hoped to negotiate a similar deal.
