Morrisons poised to reclaim market share

 - Published:  07 July, 2006

TNS Worldpanel report the value of groceries bought in

Morrisons stores has risen by 4.6% over the last month,

compared with a year ago. While the rate of growth is slower than grocery market sales as a whole, TNS concludes that Morrisons is rounding the corner and is

embarking on the battle to win back market share growth.

Morrisons share of the grocery market was 11.2% for the four weeks to 18 June, compared with 11.3% a year ago.

Tesco increased its share of the market from 30.5% to 31.6%. Asda's share of the market rose from 16.2% to 16.6%.

J Sainsbury rose from 15.9% to 16% and is on course to overtake Asda by the autumn. The losers in the grocery retail market were the independent retailers whose share fell from 3.4% to 2.8%.
