Grocery industry referred to the Competition Commission

The Of?ce of Fair Trading has referred the grocery industry to the Competition Commission, citing evidence that the increased buying power of big supermarkets could distort competition.

It added that the planning system acted as "a costly barrier to entry", while the major supermarkets had "signi?cant" land holdings which could block competition.
