Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) has given a promising young food technology student the opportunity to learn from the nation's top chef.
Beth Henry, from Monifieth High School, Angus, was awarded the title of QMS Top Scottish Student in SQA Higher Health and Food Technology by Scottish celebrity chef, Nick Nairn and Graeme Findley from the SQA last week.
The prize for achieving the top award was a Scottish cookery class taken by Nick Nairn at his cook school in Lake of Menteith for Beth and her teacher, and £500 for her school.
QMS chairman Donald Biggar, said: "We are delighted to continue our support forscholarship excellence in the area of Home Economics, Health and Food Technology.
"QMS is about promoting the benefits of eating red meat as part of a healthy, balanced diet and we feel it's important to back initiatives such as this to help give the next generation the skills to make use of Scotland's excellent produce.
"We continually hear reports that more and more kids are leaving home with little idea of how to cook which highlights the importance of encouraging study amongst Scotland's young people in the area of food and nutrition."
Beth and her teacher learnt to cook a three course lunch including Scallops with Oriental Salad and Sweet Chilli Dressing; Peppered Fillet of Beef with Whisky Sauce and warm, soft Chocolate Rounds. Nick also gave a lesson on cooking the perfect steak, from the heat of the pan through to resting the meat.
