Mouldy pie fine for Morrisons

 - Published:  05 January, 2007

Morrisons has been fined £11,000 for selling a mouldy meat pie from its store in Grantham, it was reported.

Grantham Magistrates Court was told a customer who took a bite of the pie was sick afterwards.

The retailer admitted a breach of food regulations and claimed the mistake was a one-off, due to an error by a member of staff.

Trading Standards visited the store following the customer's complaint and found three other mouldy pies in a batch of 13 on sale.

Morrisons was ordered to pay costs of £4,334 in addition to the fine.
