EU creates swiss pork and sausage quota
The European Union EU Council of Ministers has opened a 1,900 tonne annual Swiss pork and sausage quota.
The European Union (EU) Council of Ministers has opened a 1,900 tonne annual quota for duty free imports into the EU from Switzerland of boneless ham in brine (enclosed in a bladder or artificial gut); smoked boneless pork chops; pork sausages (excluding wild boar); and pork neck.
A European Commission memorandum said the trade opening reflected previous bilateral agreements between Switzerland and EU countries - with the key difference that now sales can be made in all 27 member states.
