Beef and Lamb Weaning Recipes

 - Published:  26 November, 2007

Ireland's Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) has produced a leaflet to inform new mothers of the nutritional benefits of beef and lamb.

Beef and lamb are amongst the nutrient rich foods which can be fed to babies over 28 weeks old. The leaflet contains all the necessary information to guide parents when feeding their children as well as quick and nutritious beef and lamb recipes for weaning babies.

The leaflet, 'The Right Start' will be distributed through the Bounty Health Network by midwives and health advisors, which are rated as the most valuable source of information for new/expectant mothers across Northern Ireland.

LMC Nutritionist Dr Claire McGartland said: "Time is precious in most households when preparing meals especially when you have a young child to feed, so in 'The Right Start' we have included recipes and meal ideas which can be enjoyed by all the family and that can be adapted to suit the needs of a baby being weaned.

"We have included tried and tested ideas as well as guidance on iron intake and how to introduce your baby to solid food."

The recipes are available to download from the LMC website www.lmcni.com and hard copies are available from LMC - contact Catherine MacAuley on 028 9263 3000 or email cmacauley@lmcni.com.
