NFU's Kendall opens farm gates

 - Published:  07 June, 2007

The president of the National Farmers' Union (NFU) is opening his farm gates to members of the public.

Peter Kendall is taking part in Open Farm Sunday on 10 June along with hundreds of other farmers to show people what farming is all about.

He said: "The NFU champions British farming so this Open Farm Sunday event will give us the chance to show people why farming matters.

"More than half the food consumed in the UK is produced on farms across the country and yet many people, especially children, don't make the association from crops in the field to the food on their plate.

"Open Farm Sunday is a great opportunity for us as farmers to educate people about the food we produce, as well as open our doors to the public to come and have fun and find out more about life on the farm."
