Scientists from the US Agricultural Research Service (ARS) have discovered that aluminium chloride, a common ingredient in deodorant, helps lessen foul odours emitted by pig farms.
Soil scientist Philip A Moore, Jr. found the compound effective when applied to liquid waste and does not generate smelly sulphuric gases. The chemical significantly decreases ammonia emissions generated when hundreds of farm animals are raised under one roof.
