A Midlands butchers shop is to close up finally - after 170 years trading on the same site.

Hollinshead Butchers of Tunstall in Stoke will closeso the block can be bulldozed for redevelopment.

Drawings dated 1830 show a butchers shop inoperation on the premises.

Current owner Gordon Hollinshead, 49, commented: "Customers have been coming in to say goodbye and bringing in cards and presents. It has been quite touching.

"I was born just down the road and it's been quite emotional. I will be very sorry to close.

"I've been at the shop 36 years since I started working part-time as a lad."

Hollinshead said he had not yet decided whether he would continue in the trade.
