Great Yorkshire Competition Winners

A farm shop has taken the overall supreme pie championship title at the 2007 Great Yorkshie Pork Pie, Sausages and Products competition.

The former supreme sausage champions- Hinchliffes Farm Shop, of Sunny Side Farm, Netherton- took the title with their champion large pork pie. They also came second in the thick pork sausage class this year.

The Great Yorkshire Pork Pie, Sausages and Products competition is the biggest and best known regional meat competition in the country. The 19th annual contest was staged by The Confederation of Yorkshire Butchers Councils at the Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford on 4 November.

The reserve supreme champion pie was awarded to Woods Butchers, of High Street, Carcroft, Dover for their champion small pork pie. Woods were supreme champion pork pie champions in 2005 and black pudding champions last year. They also won this year's speciality cold eating pie class and finished as runners up in both the large pork pie and black pudding categories.

The supreme sausage championship fell to Kevin Jubb Butchers, of Little Lane, Ilkley, with their champion thin pork sausage. Elite Meats of Starbeck, Harrogate, won reserve supreme champion sausage.

The best black pudding in Yorkshire came from Arthur Haigh Butchers of Dalton Airfield Industrial Estate, Thirk and the best beefburger from Sutcliffes Butchers, of Otley Street.

A newcomer to the contest, Farmer Copley of Ravensknowle Farm, Purston, Pontefract run by Robert and Heather Copley, won the prize from champion speciality sausage.

Confederation of Yorkshire Butchers council president, retired butcher Leeds butcher Bob Leary and William Lloyd Williams, president of the National Federation of Meat Traders joined the sponsors and product donators in presenting the trophies.

The 2008 Great Yorkshire competition will be held at Bradford's Ceder Court Hotel on 19 October.
