RMIF go global
The first annual progress report of Red Meat Industry Forum's (RMIF) Global Compete project has been published this week.
The aim of the project is to develop robust international cost comparisons, identify areas of global best practice and create a network of international business improvement experts. The countries involved in the cost comparisons include Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, USA, Australia, New Zealand, France, Spain, Germany Irish Republic and the Netherlands.
The report focuses on the work completed within the first nine months, much of which has involved the development of a system for cost comparisons for beef, sheep and pig production and slaughtering across the countries involved. It also includes some articles on key topics that have already emerged from the project such as 'Concerns of the global meat processing sector', 'Bio-fuels - friend or foe?' and 'What about the 5th quarter?'.
Martin Grantley-Smith, Chief Executive RMIF commented: "It is vital for the industry to have a good understanding of where our competitors might out perform us and where our strengths lie. This project is not just about measurement and statistics but is also concerned to look at best practice around the world and to adopt it."
