Animal Campaigners Launch Vegan Month
Cow-hugging animal welfare group, Animal Aid, are once more targeting the meat with the announcement that November is 'Vegan Month'.
In addition to promoting the ethical and health benefits of a vegan lifestyle, Animal Aid are focusing on the claim that switching to a vegan diet will reduce global warming.
The group will be kicking off the month with Wendy the Windy Cow, who will be farting her way around seven major UK cities to highlight the effects of livestock farming on climate change. The campaign will start in Winchester, which recently topped the WWF's poll of cities with the largest ecological footprint.
Vegan organisations all over the world jumped on the climate change bandwagon after reports by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the University of Chicago and the National Institute of Livestock and Grassland Science in Japan suggested that livestock farming is a major contributor to global warming.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have run several veganism campaigns on the back of the climate change argument, including sending a Hummer with a driver wearing a chicken suit and a banner proclaiming meat as the top cause of global warming to the White House sponsored climate forum in Washington.
The organisation fail to mention that reports released on the effects of the meat industry on global warming suggest that much of the environmental damage created by livestock production can be mitigated through improved agricultural practices.
