Factory improvements

Continuous business improvement, as preached by the RMIF, is all about the practical aim of making life better on the factory floor.

Continuous business improvement, as preached by the RMIF, is all about the practical aim of making life better on the factory floor rather than theoretical lessons in a classroom.

So when SCFF found it had a problem with leaking vacuum packs at its Yetminster plant in north Dorset, it signed up to a RMIF Masterclass.

Operators of the vacuum-packing equipment were given familiarisation lessons to learn more about how the machine worked and how to get the best out of it. The results were immediately felt with the number of vac-packs being generated 'right first time' leaping to world-class levels, saving the company more than £80,000 a year.

Now SCFF is embarking on a £1m refit at its Langport factory with the aim of increasing productivity in the boning hall by 40% and doubling packaging volume.
