South West food park future in balance
A site being promoted by a major Devon food company as a £27 million food park adjacent to Junction 27 of the M5 could fail to get the go ahead due to an objection by the Government office for the South West.
It is objecting to the land being allocated for employment purposes agreed by mid Devon District Council.
David Valentine, of mid Devon District Council, who supprts the plan told the Journal that the Government office of the South West was claiming its objection was due to the sustainability of the site as it is not adjacent to a major settlement.
Mr Valentine said that the mid Devon District Council will recommend its plan for adoption early in the new year but it could still be thwarted. "The Plan has to be signed of by the Government office as being in compliance and it could refuse planning consent."
The developer promoting the proposed South West Food Park is Malcolm Dudley-Williams, managing director of Devon Natural Food Company. His plan is to create a dedicated processing, manufacturing, packaging, storage and distribution facilities for food and drink companies.
