Buy British call from NFU
The National Farmers' Union (NFU) is urging people to buy a local turkey this Christmas.
A new website, www.ukturkeys.co.uk lists almost 100 turkey producers as well as information on nutrition and cooking.
Vice chairman of the NFU poultry board Mike Bailey said: "Over 10m birds are imported into the UK every year, some of them from as far away as South America, so we want to encourage the British consumer to buy local this year and save on food miles.
"As well as nutritional information, cooking advice, fun and games, the site features turkey producers from England and Wales, many of which now have their own website, so shoppers on the look out for a turkey will be sure to find a producer near them."
