ONLY IN THE USA

Welcome to Chicksville

The home of a famous metal bird is to host a chicken exhibition to raise money for charity.

Tourists already flock to Marietta in Georgia, US, to see its 'Big Chicken' landmark - an enormous metal chicken that adorns a KFC retaurant at the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Roswell Street.

Marietta mayor Bill Dunaway is now hoping to erect 35 painted fibreglass chickens around the city in an exhibit scheduled to open at Easter. Each chicken will be sponsored for a sum ranging from $3,000 to $10,000 and the profits will go to local non-profit organisations and charities.

The 'Lil' Chickens of Marietta Group, which organises the event, held a "naked chicken" party to raise interest and is displaying the first bird, sponsored by the Marietta Museum of History, at community events.

So far, 10 sponsors have been found and themes painted on the birds include Spring Chicken, Chicken A La King, Game Hen and Free Bird.

Worried that the sculptures might mock the Big Chicken, KFC has asked the group to sign a document assuring that the birds will not defame its landmark.
