Chicken run

Three thousand chickens escaped onto a main road in Scotland when a lorry overturned on Sunday.

The escaping chickens caused chaos in the early morning rush hour traffic on the A80 into Glasgow.

Police were forced to close main roads entering the city during the rush hour and an emergency team had to be called in to clear up the chickens.

The chickens were being transported by Noble Foods from a farm in Perthshire to an abattoir at Gainsborough in Lincolnshire.

The driver of the truck was taken to hospital with serious back injuries and the police are now investigating the incident.

Speaking directly after the event Chief Inspector Donald McMillan told local media : "Around 3,000 chickens were being carried and were shed on to the road.

"We worked with various organisations to get the chickens cleared and the road reopened as quickly as possible."
