HSA advice on transport of livestock
The Humane Slaughter Association (HSA) has produced a new series of Technical Notes detailing the requirements for those involved in the transport of livestock and poultry.
The Humane Slaughter Association (HSA) has produced a new series of Technical Notes detailing the requirements for those involved in the transport of livestock and poultry.
These follow the implementation earlier this year of the new Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 on the protection of animals during transport and the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 2006,
The EU Council Regulation on the protection of animals during transport and related operations came into force on 5 January 2007. It sets out general conditions for the transport of all vertebrate species, and contains specific provisions for the transport of farm animals and poultry.
The HSA's three new Technical Notes each provide a comprehensive description of the general requirements and respectively cover the specific provisions for farm animals and poultry - including information on the necessary documentation and authorisations, and technical requirements.
All those involved in the transport of animals and related operations need to be familiar with the requirements of the new Regulation.
Copies of the Technical Notes are available from the HSA office at £1.00 each including postage and handling, or can be freely downloaded from the HSA website www.hsa.org.uk. Telephone 01582 831919 or email info@hsa.org.uk
