Call to support charity dinner

The industry's leading charity, the Butchers & Drover's Charitable Institution, is calling on the meat sector to support its annual Festival Dinner on 2 November in London's Park Lane Hilton.

Funds raised at the dinner will support through grants and pensions those from the trade who have fallen on hard times. Last year the BDCI spent more than £250,000 on charitable activities, helping people from all over the UK.

Towers Thompson sales director Dennis Clark, who is this year's Festival chairman, said: "The charity has been going over 100 years and it has looked after people in the meat industry and their dependants. Lots of people, even in the climate we live in, which is relatively affluent, need help. It is a great comfort to people who can apply to the BDCI for funds they need. The charity looks after its own and it is important that people in the meat trade support the BDCI because one day it could be them who need aid."

The meal will showcase top quality English fillet sponsored by EBLEX. The after dinner speaker will be Sir Jeremy Hanley, a past chairman of the Conservative Party.

As in past years there will be a chance for attendees of the dinner to bid for some top days out, antiques, autographed sports memorabilia and other interesting items in the auction. One of the prizes in this year's raffle is a brand new Peugeot 107 City Car
