Growing concern

A STAFFORDSHIRE specialist housing manufacturer claims that a 20 per cent growth in demand for houses, mainly in the production of organic birds, proves the UK organic poultry sector is continuing to expand.

ARM Buildings produce an average of two buildings a week supplying small and large-scale producers with flocks ranging from 500 birds to 25,000 or more birds.

Roger Smith, ARM's sales director, said demand was particularly strong in the South-West of England, where growth in free-range egg production - both organic and conventional systems - had been noted. "Producers have been looking for well-designed solidly-constructed buildings, which are truly mobile and, importantly, vermin-resistant," he said.
