Pulp non-fiction

 - Published:  01 July, 2006

Swedish pulp producer, Rottneros, has started producing trays made of paper pulp, which will be used for frozen ready-meals. The trays can be laminated with any type of barrier film. The new product works just as well with chilled, ready-to-eat meals in modified atmosphere packaging as with frozen meals.

The trays can be moulded to any shape, allowing for compartments for different foods. It is also possible to print on the plastic film. Moreover, the tray is environmentally friendly, since cellulose fibre comes from a renewable raw material. The plastic film is easy to separate from the tray and both the tray and film can be recycled.
