Demand for Kangaroo meat threatens supply

According to Australian reports, kangaroos are at their lowest levels since monitoring began 28 years ago with numbers standing at 1.18m.

The popularity of the meat is growing across the EU and in Russia, according to the report, where it is used as a substitute for beef because it is cheaper and leaner. It is also regularly used in Russian sausages.

The Australian kangaroo industry is worth $200m annually, the report stated.
