Glen aims for Facebook fans

Glen the Highlander is looking to recruit a whole new legion of fans by launching his own Facebook entry.

The social networking phenomenon which has been sweeping the world has finally hit the meat industry, and Glen is one of the pioneers to ride that wave.

Fans of Glen, the face of Quality Meat Scotland's marketing campaign, can now check out latest pictures and even find out what he has had for his dinner.

The new fansite, which went live this week is aimed at giving Scotch Beef a profile on one of the world's most popular website and enables people to become fans of Glen and receive regular recipes and updates.

Laurent Vernet, head of marketing for QMS, said: "With Facebook now topping 90 million users worldwide the page gives us a huge potential audience for the brand, and at no cost to the industry.

"It's also important to be part of the international conversation and ensure that people know about the positive aspects of eating red meat, and can be a good way of driving more traffic to our consumer website."
