And the Sausage Oscar goes to...
John Langford of the Welsh Sausage Company received this year's Sausage Oscar, at an Awards Breakfast held at the House of Lords to celebrate the David Black Awards.
Presenting the prize, Mick Sloyan, chief executive of the British Pig Executive, which awards the Oscar, said that John deserved particular recognition for his specially developed sausage for schools, which is low in salt and greatly reduced in fat. "The sausage, which was taste tested by both primary and secondary school children, received the universal thumbs up and thirty local authorities are now selling it," he said.
The Welsh Sausage Company, one of the UK's leading manufacturers of chilled and frozen sausages, has also launched a sausage range into the National Health Service as well as working with BPEX to develop new markets. Sloyan added: "In last twelve months we have explored Thailand, Dubai and Spain, with other countries are to be targeted in the next twelve months."
The company has already won a gold award this year at the Great Taste Awards for its traditional cured back bacon.
