J Brindon Addy Butchers, of Hade Edge, Holmfirth, has opened a second shop after gaining 'A' grades for both quality and hygiene in an independent audit

J Brindon Addy Butchers, of Hade Edge, Holmfirth, has gained 'A' grades for both quality and hygiene in an independent audit and maximum points in Kirklees council's 'scores on the door' food hygiene ratings.

The "scores on the doors" scheme provides official local authority hygiene ratings for food businesses and Addy's Butchers gained maximum marks following inspections by environmental health officers.

Brindon Addy, who is chairman of the Q Guild's north-east region, said: "These achievements would not have been possible without the sustained efforts of our staff in helping to maintain the business to extremely high standards."

Addy's Butchers has also just expanded by opening a second traditional butcher's shop in The Manna Food Hall, a new two-storey food hall in The Mill, Batley.

Addy has been chosen as one of 13 retailers who will be based in the 10,000 sq ft of space. The project is part of a nationwide campaign to challenge the supermarket giants. It is to begin trading tomorrow (22 September).
