Pig Industry Inquiry

 - Published:  23 July, 2008

A Parliamentary Select Committee has announced that it will undertake an inquiry into the UK's ailing pig industry.

The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee, chaired by Conservative MP Michael Jack, will concentrate on answering a number of questions, including: what the government can do to better support the industry, what supermarkets and the hospitality industry can do to alleviate the problems and why the pig industry is in its current state.

The results of the inquiry will be published after two hearings in the autumn, with deadlines for submissions on 11 September 2008.
