Flock slaughtered on FMD suspicion

Sheep are to be slaughtered on a farm within the Surrey protection zone after tests suggest exposure to foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).
Defra said the whole flock is to be slaughtered on suspicion of the disease and further tests are ongoing.
On Saturday, the decision was taken to slaughter on suspicion pigs on a farm in close proximity to the two infected premises in Surrey.
The government has lifted a ban on farmers across most of England from taking livestock to slaughter, although a full ban on movement remains in place in the surveillance zone around the two infected farms.
A 3km protection zone has been set up around the farmland, with a 10km surveillance zone around that.
