Pork Proving Popular

 - Published:  24 January, 2007

More people are turning to pork to satisfy the family, according to the British Pig Executive (BPEX), which has found sales were up over Christmas.

Christmas is traditionally an important time for pork and this year was no exception with volume sales of leg roasting joints up 14% and loin roasts up by more than 17% according to figures just released.

Over the same period, the total sales of pork also showed a healthy rise - up almost 4% in volume and 5.6% in value.

BPEX consumer marketing manager, Chris Lamb, said: "When it comes to roast meals pork is still a family favourite and this is even more true over the Christmas period.

"After eating the turkey people are looking for something different and British consumers love the quality and variety of tasty, lean pork."
