Norfolk negative for FMD
The temporary control zone in Norfolk has been lifted after tests came back negative for FMD.
A 3km temporary control zone had been placed around Martins Farm, Hindolveston, after pigs on the farm showed symptoms of FMD. However, laboratory tests showed that the animals were free from the disease.
So far, one case of FMD has been confirmed on a farm in Surrey and animals on a farm adjacent to the infected premises are being slaughtered on suspicion of the disease.
Officials in Wales and Scotland have relaxed movement restrictions and farmers can take livestock direct to slaughter.
Initial tests on the virus show it to be type 01 BFS67- the same strain found in the August outbreak. Defra are carrying out a full epidemiological investigation into the source of the outbreak.
