RSPCA investigates Dalehead Foods

The RSPCA is investigating after two pigs were put into scalding water at a Cambridgeshire meat processing plant while they were still alive.

Management at Dalehead Foods in Linton has admitted the incident and said that the worker responsible has been sacked.

A company spokesman confirmed pigs had been put into the water tank without being properly slaughtered on two occasions.

He said: "In May Dalehead Foods was obliged to suspend and retrain an employee who had not followed mandatory procedures at its site at Linton, Cambridgeshire.

"Following the report of a further breach this month by the same employee Dalehead Foods invoked disciplinary proceedings, the outcome of which was the termination of the employee's contract.

"Further investigation confirmed that these incidents are isolated. Dalehead Foods is committed to the highest standards of animal welfare."

A spokeswoman for the RSPCA confirmed a complaint had been lodged and said an inspector would be visiting the abattoir.
