Northumbria Select Lamb launched
Over 50 caterers from the North East marked the launch of Northumbria Select Lamb, a brand guaranteed under the EBLEX Quality Standard Scheme.
Over 50 caterers from the North East recently attended a special event at Newcastle Race Course organised by catering butcher R Manners & Sons Ltd to mark the launch of Northumbria Select Lamb, a brand of lamb guaranteed under the EBLEX Quality Standard scheme.
Foodservice project manager for EBLEX, Hugh Judd, explained to guests what that means. He said: "Quality Standard beef and lamb is fully assured and independently inspected from farm to plate. Our scheme is also the only one of its kind to address eating quality, so you can guarantee that the meat will be succulent, tender and of a consistent quality every time."
Farmer Brian Manners who is supplying some of the meat said: "We believe in selling local meat to local people. We have excellent quality meat here in Northumberland and we are proud of that. Traceability is important to us, in fact we could probably name the animal that the meat came from if a chef were to ask! Our welfare standards are amongst the highest in the country. The animals are fed mainly on grass with some farm assured grain. And with one of the abattoirs only two miles down the road, that means less stress for the animal, not to mention reduced food miles."
Northumbria Select lamb is sourced from local farms and where the animals are free to roam the lush Northumbrian countryside, feeding and foraging on lush grasses and heathers. Local abattoirs process the lamb which is then passed to Manners' team of butchers. To find out more contact Tony Manners on: 01661 823261 ext. 212
