Scotch lamb on the menu

Scottish meat bosses are continuing to forge a path into Europe with Scotch Lamb set to star at Europe's biggest food fair for catering professionals.

As part of QMS support for Scotch Beef and Lamb in Europe, staff are taking part in the large food international hotel catering and food trade exhibition SIRHA in Lyon, France, from 20 to 24 January.

Current statistics show that in October approximately 25,000 tonnes of beef, worth about £56 million have been exported from the UK to Europe since the lifting of the ban last year.

As well as the opportunity to meet European chefs and foodservice wholesalers, the major event at this year's fair is the signing of an agreement with the French members of top chef association Euro-Toques to recognise Scotch Beef and Lamb as a distinct product and to use it for all their demonstrations.

Laurent Vernet, Head of Marketing at QMS, said: "Events such as these give us the rare opportunity to let some of the world's leading chef experience the quality of Scotch Lamb for themselves.

"I think it's testament to the work of the Scottish producers that they create a product being recognised as one of the best in the world."

In another boost to the Scottish Industry, a leading European carvery equipment supplier, Enodis, has decided to use Scotch Beef as its sole product in its demonstrations.
