PETA blame meat for global warming
Activists are to launch a campaign which cites meat as a bigger global warming culprit than four wheel drives.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are planning to park a Hummer car with a driver wearing a chicken suit near a climate forum in Washington in September.
They will then take the truck, and a banner proclaiming meat as the main contributor to climate change, the headquarters of environmentalist groups to encourage them to take up the anti-meat campaign.
The organisation are using a 2006 UN report to back their protest. The report claimed that the meat industry generates more greenhouse gases than all forms of transportation combined.
This is not the first time that it has been claimed that meat is worse than cars for the environment, but industry leaders point out that people have not taken into account the gases produced while manufacturing vehicles when calculating carbon costs.
