UK equipment company Herbert Industrial has achieved compliance for its weigh-labelling equipment within the US regulatory framework.

This has included the granting of approvals by the National Conference for Weights and Measures (NCWM), as well as certification against the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Standards for safety of machinery.

Herbert is now positioned to deliver a comprehensive range of weigh-label technology to the food processing sector, from manual to fully automatic systems linking factory control systems, vision verification systems and robotics.

Herbert's Gemini Lightning automatic weigh-labelling machines and its IH500 scale and printer systems were all tested against US legal requirements by the NCWM in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

As well as having to operate in the US weight units of pounds, the machinery underwent extensive testing over its full operating range. This included a 100-hour and 100,000 weighings continuous operation.

The safety assessment against the UL standards, covering safety aspects of mechanical and electrical design and machine production, was conducted concurrently.
