British beef stars on the big screen
British beef is to play a starring role in a new film of Sweeney Todd, which features Johnny Depp and is directed by Tim Burton.
Weddel Swift supplied all the meat, including 14 full sides of beef, to Pinewood Studios on Monday 12 March where the story of the barber of Fleet Street who killed his customers and sold their bodies to a pie shop is being made.
The meat will not be eaten and will be collected by Weddel Swift for disposal when filming is complete.
Andy Lea, commercial development manager of Weddel Swift, said he was flattered the company had been chosen: "I suppose because we're the leading wholesaler, that has something to do with it," he said.
The meat was transported from Bristol and the problem of transporting whole sides was overcome by double hanging the sides by both the forequarter and the hindquarter, "like a hammock," said Lea.
