Declaration of origin welcomed
The announcement by the Scottish Executive that catering establishments in Scotland will have to tell customers which country beef comes from has been welcomed by Quality Meat Scotland and NFU Scotland.
Food minister Ross Finnie has announced that restaurants, pubs, cafés, hotels and other food
outlets in Scotland will be
required to provide better information on the origin of their beef to consumers.
QMS chairman Donald Biggar said: "This is wonderful news for the Scottish red meat industry. It will ensure that Scottish consu-mers and visitors know if they are getting quality Scottish produce."
NFU Scotland president John Kinnaird said that Scottish farmers and consumers would be the beneficiaries of the move.
