Oz production rise
Latest figures from Australia have shown beef and veal production has rocketed by 21% this October, compared with the same period last year.
Production now stands at 201,826t, according to the figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Beef and veal production during the first 10 months of 2006 stands at 1.82mt, a 4% increase on the same period in 2005 and a record for the January to October period, Meat & Livestock Australia said.
Beef and veal production increased by 20% in Queensland to 101,121t, while in New South Wales, production jumped by almost 30% to 39,496t, as ongoing drought conditions forced producers to offload large numbers of stock.
Australian adult cattle slaughter in October increased by 21% to 735,000 head compared with October 2005 levels, with slaughter for the January to October period up by 3% to 6.63 million head.
