Brazilian exporter opens UK office

 - Published:  05 October, 2006

Marfrig, the second largest exporter of beef from Brazil has opened an office in Europe. The Northamptonshire based business, 'Marfrig Europe', will be involved in marketing and selling South American meat products; primarily beef and lamb.

The company includes the Gejota brand, which had been an approved supplier to Asda and Sainsbury's until foot-and-mouth disease hit Brazil last October. The company is expanding fast, and has bought two new plants in Brazil and one in Uruguay in the last six weeks alone.

Managing director Sandy Murdoch said: "The market for imported beef is expanding across the globe. Brazil now exports to over 170 countries worldwide. It is a natural thing for a Brazilian company like Marfrig to open a European Office to better understand and serve customers."
