Healthy options from Westaway
Westaways has secured a deal to supply Somerfield deli counters nationwide starting on 27 March 2007 and is also in discussion with a number of foodservice companies to supply schools and hospitals.
Westaways, the west-country sausage manufacturers has launched a low-fat, low-salt sausage aimed at children and those with food intolerances.
The Traditional Pork Sausage contains no flavour enhancers or colourants, relying on a 78% pork content, plus pepper, rosemary and sage to give it its meaty texture and taste. The pork is all sourced from the South of England.
The sausage has a high protein level of 14.9g per 100g, a low saturated fat content and salt level below FSA guidelines.

At the same time Westaways is hoping to break into a new market sector by launching its own range of burgers. The new Westaways burger range includes the premium beef steak burger, with a meat content of 99%, as well as a pork and apple burger and a hot and spicy lamb burger.
Charles Baughan, marketing director at Westaways said: "Today's consumers are well informed about the choices they make and they want to know that the food they eat is wholesome without flavour enhancers and colourants. Westaways has responded to this demand and developed their Traditional Pork Sausage."
