Korean beef ban to be lifted

South Korea may lift the three-year-ban on American beef imports.

South Korea may lift the three-year-ban on American beef imports, if experts sent to inspect US meat processing plants give the all-clear, and declare American beef safe. A team from South Korea is expected to travel this month, after which the Seoul government will make its decision. An unnamed agriculture ministry official confirmed the trip. He said: "They will stay in the US from next week through early next month for the scrutiny." The ban was imposed in December 2003 following a case of BSE in Washington state.
