Brazil's JBS SA has completed a $1.5-bn acquisition of US meatpacker Swift & Co., creating the world's largest beef processor.
JBS bought Swift from private equity firm HM Capital Partners LLC of Dallas and Vail, Colo.-based Booth Creek Management Corp.
Swift, the third-largest US processor of beef and pork, was a highly sought after company because so few meat-packaging plants have been put up for sale in the wake of US industry consolidation.
