The fifth quarter...It's offally good

 - Published:  30 June, 2006

Offal is not the most fashionable kind of meat, but it has traditonally been a valuable source of income to the beef and sheep sectors.

A comprehensive 70 page report about legislation surrounding the use and disposal of ruminant offals is now available from the English Beef and Lamb Executive (EBLEX).

The report looks at the offal and by-products supply chain, the cost of disposal, potential returns, international trade, cost reduction, and opportunities to add value, as well as the laws that affect all these areas.

With the lifting of the beef export ban the report is designed to help the industry benefit from the opportunities that have arisen. The report is available to EBLEX levy payers at www.eblex.org.uk, by contacting george@eblex.org.uk or phoning EBLEX on 01480 482981.
