Speed dating in Paris brings rapid response for the business-minded

A UNIQUE Paris business convention enabling beef exporters and French importers to 'pair up' and discuss potential business opportunities has been hailed as a success, with several 'partners' exchanging contracts as a result.

The 'speed dating' Exports Business Convention, organised by the English Beef & Lamb Executive (EBLEX), attracted 33 companies from both sides of the Channel, eager to discuss potential French beef requirements.

Remi Fourrier, EBLEX manager for France, said the concept was 'just right' for the current market situation.

He added: "Many exporters have maintained contact with their customers over the years, but this event enabled them to meet afresh, make new contacts and discuss future business opportunities. Not only did most exporters tell us they had found new customers, some have confirmed that they have signed beef export contracts as a result.

"The feedback from both sides has been extremely positive."

Each company attending completed a questionnaire on the nature and size of its business, what it needed and its business ambitions. These documents were circulated and at least 10 short, confidential meetings set up for each exporter during the day..

Andrew Garvey, EBLEX Head of Marketing, said there had been 'no expectation' that any business contracts would be signed on the day itself.

"The news that some contracts have already been signed is a superb bonus," he added.
