BRITAIN GETS TEXTING
Two months ago, a group of pig farmers ditched their wellies for the day to record the song Stand by your Ham - a twist on the Tammy Wynette classic Stand by your Man.
The recording has helped raise awareness of the Pigs Are Worth It campaign and now it has become the centre of attention for a second time. A campaign update email sent out to over 18,000 signatories of the Pigs Are Worth It online petition at the end of last week asked for their help to get the message across to even more people by getting the song played on radio stations across the country.
Supporters of the petition were urged to text their favourite radio stations on Sunday 4 May requesting they play Stand by your Ham in support of British pig farmers.
BPEX chairman Stewart Houston said: "The support for the campaign has been tremendous and we really appreciate everyone's efforts. Supermarkets have started to raise prices, but very little of those increases have found their way back to the farmers, who need it the most."
