EU bans beef from Argentine region

 - Published:  24 February, 2006

The EU has banned the imports of beef from eight departments in the Corrientes region of Argentina. The ban applies to meat from cattle slaughtered after 4 February.

The impact on trade of this latest delisting is expected to be small as the province of Corrientes exports very little beef to the EU. It is primarily a cattle breeding area, with animals finished for slaughter elsewhere. However the outbreak and subsequent safety measures are likely to have repercussions for the price of meat from this region.
