IBC To Meet In Ireland

 - Published:  27 June, 2007

The 'Presidency' of the International Butchers Confederation (IBC) will hold its first ever meeting in Ireland on 28 June at the premises of Bord Bia.

A reception will take place at 17.30 in the Food Centre to mark the event and honour the delegation with a presentation to the President of the IBC.

There will be a second presentation to Seamas Kenny, secretary to Bord Bia who played a seminal role in the formation of ACBI in 1998/9 and who retires in August.

Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland (ACBI) is the Irish member of IBC and ACBI chief executive Pat Brady is one of its two Vice-Presidents.

Today the IBC represents 16 associations from the countries of the EU and EFTA with a total of more than 150,000 craft butcher businesses, which together employ nearly 1 million people.

It is the largest component of the European 'artisan' food sector and the total turnover of the sector amounts to in excess of 60 billion euro per year.
