Northampton cooked bacon supplier blazes export trail

The Northampton-based company, a supplier of cooked bacon and ingredients to food manufacturers, retail and foodservice, has secured new supply contracts through its distributors in France and Belgium.

In France, the company has won orders to supply cooked bacon to a leading international hotel group and leisure services corporation, while in Belgium, TMI Foods is fulfilling a contract with a major supermarket group supplying retail packs of cooked bacon.

It has also secured business in Denmark for the first time, providing cooked bacon to a wholesaler supplying Danish food manufacturers. The company has also gained repeat export business in Spain through wholesalers in Barcelona to supply cooked bacon rollers - Pigs In Blankets - to expat communities living in the Costas.

The company is also fulfilling its first order for cooked ingredients to a Greek sandwich manufacturer which has started production of UK-style sandwiches for the local market.

David Abbott, Managing Director of TMI Foods said: "We see exports as a fantastic opportunity for us because while the UK market is a relatively sophisticated and developed one for food manufacturing and foodservice, a great many openings for development are available to us across Europe as the benefits of buying quality ingredients become more apparent to food manufacturers."
