Food of love
Music might have been the food of love for Shakespeare but Northern Irish meat bosses are hoping real life lovers would rather have a bit of steak this Valentines Day.
Music might have been the food of love for Shakespeare, but Northern Irish meat bosses are hoping real-life lovers would rather have a bit of steak this Valentine's Day.
The Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC) said that, in Northern Ireland, beef and lamb are by far the preferred foods that set the mood for romance. It said: "It seems that when it comes to Valentine's Day, whether it is a meal eaten in a restaurant or at home, romantic couples opt for a succulent steak or luscious lamb to woo their other half."
It added that looking at the nutrients it's not difficult to see why: beef and lamb are rich in iron, zinc, vitamin B12 and protein - all the essential nutrients to work wonders on the brain, not to mention the libido.
After eating beef or lamb your blood stream is flooded with amino acid tyrosine. This triggers brain cells that enhance mental alertness and concentration and energises the body's functions.
So to set that special someone's heart a-flutter cook them up a nutrient power pack meal, a saucy steak or a cheeky chop. Certainly "a dish fit for the gods".
